Stump Grinding and Yard Services
Four services make up most of our schedule. Light grading, hauling, and cleanup get added when the property needs them.
Stump Grinding
The cutter wheel works the stump down in passes until it's 6 to 12 inches below grade. That's the standard depth for stump grinding, and it's what lets you fill the hole with soil and seed it, lay sod over it, or plant something else nearby without hitting solid wood.

Hauling and Cleanup
Chips and leftover brush can stay in the hole, go into a pile where you point, or get hauled off if the volume is something we can take. A large oak makes a large pile. Mention it when you call, not when we finish.
Surface Root Removal
We grind the roots you can see, flush with the grade or slightly below. We don't follow a root back to the trunk or dig out a full root system.

Small and Medium Tree Removal
We remove small and medium trees, stump included. A dead pine near a fence or an oak that failed and left a standing stem are both in our range. Timber-sized trunks, crane work, and anything hanging over a roof need a different contractor.

Tree Clearing
Small and medium stems, plus the brush around them. This is the same work as the tree removal and land clearing listed on this page. We don't prune live oaks for shape and we don't take anything off a roof.
Brush and Land Clearing
We clear blackberry, scotch broom, saplings, and slash piles. We can open a path, clear a pad, or cut fuel back around a structure before fire season. This is yard and lot scale work.

Light Grading
After we clear a pad or grind a cluster of stumps, we can knock the high spots down so you can walk the area or seed it. This is light work with the machine already on site. It isn't civil grading and it isn't a finished driveway.
Access, gates, and slope
Our machine goes through a 36-inch gate, which covers most side yards in Auburn, Rocklin, and Roseville. Long gravel drives in the foothills are usually fine too. Up there the question is whether the ground will hold the machine, not whether it fits.
How the job goes

2. We walk it first
If the only route to the stump is a staircase, a deck, or a retaining wall drop, tell us on the phone. Sometimes there's a workaround and sometimes there isn't.
3. We grind 6 to 12 inches down
Species affects the job more than size does. Pine grinds fast and clean. Valley oak and live oak are dense and take longer.
4. Chips
You can keep the chips. Mixed back into the hole, they settle over the first season. Ask us to pile them off to the side if you're planting there.
